CANINE-ASSISTED SWIMMING
Our Canine-Assisted swimming program is an adjunct that brings a unique element to existing swim school curriculums and provides highly trained therapy and service dogs to assist certified instructors in the water during lessons for children that have autism, special needs, fears or other challenges. The dogs help instructors reach their goals as kids are given creative tools that only a dog can provide. As such, kids realize their full potential through fun, sensory based, adaptive swimming sessions.
We focus on underlying roadblocks that often manifest as anxiety, dis-trust, combative behavior, non-compliance, and unresponsiveness. We provide expeditious techniques that break through barriers much faster than traditional methods. The dogs are handled by experienced and credentialed handlers. The interaction between dog and child quickly fosters trust and acceptance. This unique facet to a swim program cultivates a team effort between the child, swim instructor dog handler, and the dog which fosters a deeper sense of connection and well-being between them all.
